Scientists Develop "Blackest" Silicon-Based Photovoltaic Cells

In the R&D center in Rochester, New York, scientists at Natcore Technology have successfully developed the "first black silicon photovoltaic cell."

Scientists developed this technique using liquid phase deposition (LPD). According to reports, the reflectivity of this silicon wafer is almost zero. However, Natcore stressed that this silicon wafer is only an integral part of the photovoltaic cell and cannot generate electricity until it is made into a photovoltaic cell.

In addition, the company plans to cooperate with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) of the United States, and both parties have signed a cooperative research and development agreement. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory of the United States will use liquid deposition technology and NREL technology together with Natcore Corporation to achieve a certain breakthrough in the conversion efficiency of black silicon photovoltaic cells.
