Weighing materials commonly used

The performance of the load cell depends largely on the choice of materials to be manufactured. The load cell material includes the following components: strain gauge material, elastomer material, patch adhesive material, sealant material, lead sealing material, and lead material.

Strain gauge and resistor component materials

The strain gauge is the sensing part of the load cell, which converts the external force into an electrical quantity output. It is the most important component of the sensor. The commonly used strain gauge substrate is made of polymer film material, and the strain material is usually high purity Kangkang. The performance of the strain gauges is not only related to the purity of the substrate and the constantan, but also to the manufacturing process. Improving process technology is also an important aspect of improving sensor performance.

Elastomer material

The function of the load cell elastomer is to transmit an external force. It must have the same deformation when subjected to the same force, because the strain gauge is attached to the elastic body, and the deformation of the elastic body is the deformation of the strain gauge; It has a resetting function and can be automatically reset when the external force disappears. Elastomeric materials are usually selected from a variety of metals, mainly aluminum alloys, stainless steels and alloy steels.

Patch adhesive material

The patch adhesive is to firmly fix the strain gauge and the elastomer together so that the deformation they produce will always be the same. It can be seen that the patch adhesive is also an important component. At present, the use of a patch adhesive called a multi-component polymer epoxy series adhesive. Its performance is very related to its own purity, mixing method, storage time, curing method, curing time, etc., please carefully read it before use.

Sealant material

Early load cell seals used sealants. Later, due to the development of manufacturing technology, welding technology can improve the stability and service life of the extremely large sensors. Although many welding techniques are used now, some important parts need to be coated with some sealant. The sealant is generally made of silica gel. The silica gel has the advantages of good stability, moisture resistance, corrosion resistance and excellent insulation properties.

Lead seal and lead material

If the sensor output leads are not fixed, they may be damaged or loose, resulting in unstable signals or no output. The current sensor output is in the form of a connector, and the material and fastening strength of the connector also affect the output. It is best to use a connector with a sealant. The internal leads also need to be fixed to prevent them from moving around. The quality of the leads is also important, and the material properties from high to low are silver, copper and aluminum. If the surrounding high-frequency signal and radio wave interference are serious, shielded cable should also be used; in corrosive environments and inflammable and explosive places, anti-corrosion and anti-flame-proof and explosion-proof cables should be used, plus casing to protect.
