Graphene first tested in microgravity

This type of heat pipe is commonly used as a cooling system for satellites to transfer heat away from electronic equipment by evaporating and condensing fluids. The team wanted to test whether the efficiency of the system could be changed by graphene.

The results of the initial ground tests showed that this material can indeed play this role. Later, the researchers put a few loop heat pipes - some coated with graphene but none - with an analog microgravity environment. The final result showed that the graphene coating was more effective.

Next, the research team plans to test graphene at the satellite or space station.
