Chinalco Developed Nb3Sn Superconducting Materials Successfully

China National Alcoa (14.98,0.49,3.38%) Company's Northwestern Aluminum Processing Branch has successfully developed Nb3Sn superconducting materials since the successful development of Nb-Ti superconducting material bars last year, with the joint efforts of related units and related technical personnel. Bar. Nb-Ti and Nb3Sn superconducting materials are key materials for the ITER project.

The International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) is currently the world's larger international cooperative research project. The partners include the European Union, the United States, China, Japan, India, Russia, South Korea and other countries. The plan will study and solve the key technical problems of nuclear fusion, in which the magnet system wound by low temperature superconducting wire is the core component of the ITER device.

The superconducting materials jointly developed by Chinalco and Western Superconducting Material Science and Technology Co., Ltd. will further promote the rapid development of China's superconducting technology and related high-tech industries, ending the current status of China's dependence on imports of low-temperature superconducting materials, and improving China's basic materials. The research's international status has driven the development of related industries in China and further enhanced China's national defense capabilities and the competitiveness of the nuclear industry.
