Shanghai successfully develops high-temperature double-tank molten salt heat storage system for key solar thermal power generation equipment

Through the high-temperature dual-tank molten salt storage heat storage demonstration system constructed in this project, the molten salt heat storage system of the solar thermal power station was simulated, the convection heat transfer coefficient in the molten salt pipe was tested, and the experience of start-stop, operation and maintenance of the molten salt system was accumulated. At present, a number of companies have provided services such as molten salt properties and corrosion characteristics testing, which has laid a solid foundation for the design, construction and operation of the molten salt heat storage system for solar thermal power plants. The project has reached the domestic advanced level in terms of design/operating temperature, freeze blocking strategy, intelligent control and other key performance indicators.

Because the molten salt used in this system will solidify at 220°C, it is prone to freezing and plugging under conditions such as start-up and shut-down of the system, resulting in failure of the system operation. The project starts with equipment selection, system design, and process flow. Through the optimized design of high-low temperature tanks, molten salt heat exchangers, valves, and pipelines, it prevents the freezing of the system and creates a set of prevention. Molten salt freeze-clogging strategy ensures that the system operates properly in the 300-550°C range. The system applied for a total of five patents during the development period.

At present, the Electric Research Institute is further expanding the scope of application of the system, focusing on the "coal to electricity", "abandoned wind abandoned molten salt heat storage and heating" and other projects for the national energy conservation and environmental protection provides a new idea .
