Analysis of the Import and Export of American Metalworking Machine Tools in July 2011

The American Manufacturing Technology Association (AMT) released the latest statistics on the import and export trade of metal processing machines in the United States in July 2011. In July 2011, the export value of US metal processing machine tools was US$223 million, down 1.6% from the previous month and up 17.07% from the same period of last year. The import value was US$393 million, up 5.6% from the previous month and up 71.12% from the same period last year. From January to July 2011, the United States exported 1.528 billion US dollars of metal processing machine tools, an increase of 33.7% over the same period of 2010 of 1.143 billion US dollars; imported metal processing machine tools 2.35 billion US dollars, an increase of 78.8% over the same period of 2010, 1.14 billion US dollars. Exports of gold cutting machine tools continued to grow, and the number of forming machine tools decreased. In July 2011, the US exported 2.23 US dollars for metal processing machine tools, of which US$0.9 billion was exported to CNC machine tools, down 15.7% from the previous month. From January to July 2011, the United States exported 661 million US dollars of CNC machine tools, an increase of 33.6% over the same period of 2010, 495 million US dollars. From January to July 2011, the export value of CNC machine tools in the United States accounted for 43.28% of the total export value. In terms of product types, in July 2011, the United States exported 144 million US dollars of metal cutting machine tools, an increase of 3.2% from the previous month; exports of metal forming machine tools reached 179 million US dollars, a decrease of 9.2%. From January to July 2011, the United States exported 1.01 billion US dollars of metal cutting machine tools, up 32.8% from 761 million US dollars in the same period of 2010; the cumulative export of metal forming machine tools was 518 million US dollars, up 35.5% from 382 million US dollars in the same period of last year. CNC machine tools accounted for 70% of the total imports of metal processing machine tools. In July 2011, the United States imported and exported metal processing machine tools of 393 million US dollars, of which imported CNC machine tools 290 million US dollars, an increase of 9.2%. From January to July 2011, the United States imported 1.65 billion US dollars of CNC machine tools, a substantial increase of 101.3% from the 820 million US dollars in the same period of 2010. From January to July 2011, the import value of CNC machine tools in the United States accounted for 70.2% of the total imports. In terms of product types, in July 2011, the United States imported metal cutting machine tools of 337 million US dollars, an increase of 11.83.9%, and imported metal forming machine tools of 56 million US dollars, a decrease of 20.8%. From January to July 2011, the United States imported a total of 1.905 billion US dollars of metal cutting machine tools, an increase of 89.8% over the same period of 2010 of 1.004 billion US dollars; cumulative imported metal forming machine tools 445 million US dollars, an increase of 43.2% over the same period of 2010, 311 million US dollars.
