Application of Torque Motor Technology on Machine Tools

Torque Motor, also translated as a torque motor, is essentially a low-speed, high-torque servo motor. It is classified into DC, brushless DC, and sinusoidal AC. It can be seen from the above parameters that the rated current of the torque motor is very small, and the structure of the torque motor with a large torque can be driven by a small servo module, which is composed of an outer rotor and an inner rotor; the inner rotor structure has obvious advantages. Because the motor of the same torque can be smaller, in the machine tool industry, the same performance, small size has a big advantage CyTec uses the outer rotor structure (see Figure 1).

The torque motor is actually a very early technology. The earliest application of the torque motor I know is the gyro motor on the missile, but the torque is relatively small. The application on the machine tool has only appeared in the last 10 years. With the development of high-speed machining technology, the market needs a high-precision, high-acceleration rotating mechanism, and the gear or worm gear drive has proved to be unsatisfactory. With the advancement of AC servo technology, the torque of the torque motor quickly reached a practical level, and the direct drive of the torque motor was quickly applied to the machine tool.
Second, the torque motor direct drive is the best choice for high-speed and high-precision rotary motion rotary motion on the machine, such as the oscillating head and turntable (see Figure 2 and Figure 3), the traditional solution is to use servo motor + worm gear or gear Realization, the shortcomings of this method are also obvious: first of all, wear and wear of mechanical parts for long-term continuous operation is inevitable, especially the durability of the worm gear turret is a big problem, the precision retention is very poor; the second is the speed With low acceleration, when machining high-speed surfaces, if the speed of the rotating shaft is lower than the acceleration of the curved surface, overcutting will occur.

The rotor of the torque motor directly drives the movement of the rotating part. It has no intermediate transmission link. It is a non-contact transmission with no backlash and no wear. With high-precision encoder, encoder-level accuracy can be achieved. Torque motor Generally, a rotational speed of 60 r/min can be achieved, which is already a very high speed for the swinging mechanism.

Fourth, the development and application of torque motors The torque motor is a mature product abroad, and the country is still in its infancy. The products using torque motors are not currently used in China, and the price is the biggest constraint. Secondly, some system parameters are not open. The best way to reduce prices is to increase production; at present, several companies in China are committed to the production of torque motors, which will force foreign products to cut prices, thus promoting the consumer market.
The development and production system of foreign products can be used for reference. For example, CyTec cooperates with Achen University to set up a special torque motor research institute to directly inject technology into production, and the company returns profits to research institutions for further research. The reason why CyTec can compete with some big companies is mainly due to the technical background of Achen University.
